Made travelling between Cities easier. More information regarding using the pass ie.. seat reservation, we thought you had to book a seat everytime you travelled. However a must on busy routes also did not know you could just hop on a train too. At times it was difficult to book seats, as ticketing offices had large queues.

We exchanged our voucher at Tokyo Station and made our first booking on the Shinkansen to Kyoto. There were no queues and the staff spoke excellent English. Our travel on the Shinkansen was fantastic - fast, smooth, clean, comfortable and always on time. We were concerned at the short time we had to change trains at Okayama on our return to Tokyo but need not have been. We stepped off the first train and the next train to arrive at the same platform was our connecting train. The staff are very knowledgeable about what will work and what won't. The pass covered our trip on the Narita Express back to the airport from Shinjuku and also the JR lines which supplement the Metro in Tokyo. It makes travel very affordable. Our only surprise was that we had expected luggage compartments on the trains (we had booked first class tickets) but there were none and we had to hoist our bags into overhead racks. In my view this is the best way to travel in Japan.

The process of exchanging the permit for the Rail Pass is straightforward but should only be done on the day of activation and expect to queue so allow enough time for this and then getting the train ticket before you travel. The tickets and rail pass have to be presented at the gates before and after the travel. Signage is in Japanese and English so changing and finding the correct platform is easy.

Well, there is not much to say about the Japan Rail Pass. This is the third time we have used one to travel around Japan. It is value for money if used mostly for long distance travel. JR is very efficient and the trains are always on time. The bookings are relatively easy to make at larger city stations with knowledgeable booking office staff. For our first week in Tokyo we purchased “Suica” pre-paid cards at Narita airport for travel on the Yamanote line and around the JR East network. The card could also be used for JR train travel into Tokyo from the airport if necessary. Easy to top up and with its “tap and go” features is much better to use than constantly trying to put cash into station ticket machines. They can also be used for minor cash purchases in convenience type stores. This “saved” the “consecutive days” of the Travel Pass” for when we started long distance travel out of Tokyo.

It's great to be able to walk straight through the gates without having to buy a ticket every time you get on a train. I think I only just used the value of my pass travelling around the Kansai region and then to Tokyo, but if you were travelling longer distances it would be even better value. Regardless, it's worth it for the convenience.

Love the product and always have. Just plan your trip to make the best use possible of the Rail pass. This time we didn't travel so much so could have maybe purchased a 7day pass instead of 14day. So the savings weren't quite there. However for ease of purchasing tickets, and not haveing to use money directly while travelling this is definitely the way to go. We have used this method now for our last three to four trips to Japan and wouldn't change it.

We had a 7 day pass, before we set out seemed expensive. however we covered a lot of ground in 7 days and would not have been able to afford that if bought the tickets individually. In Japan with little language you need to pay attention to the signs and use hyperdia. Fantastic rail service always on time and people so helpful and polite. Travelled on the bullet trains and small local ones from Kagoshima, Hiroshima, Nara, Matsumoto, Yukanda (snow monkeys) over the alps (trans alpine) and return. Amazing

It is easy to get on the wrong train as they can board only minutes apart. One day we were in a hurry to get on a Shinkazen and turn up with minutes to spare. We hopped on the train at the correct track. But found out it was a Nozomi (not included in the Japan Rail pass) Our train would have moved up the track minutes later. The conductor asked us to get off at the next stop - which was fine as our train was at the next station 5 minutes later and we boarded the right train. Otherwise we would have had to pay for the fare on the Nozomi. The Japanese are very obliging and kind if you are respectful. I loved Japan!

Recommend buying food before you get on the train as food is more expensive on the train. Trains are very clean staff helpful and trains arrive and depart on the specified time - fantastic service. Best that you book your seats too we booked the next days travel once we arrived at each station.

JR Pass was a really handy/great pass for saving both money and time as Pass holders were using separate lane to get in and out to/from the platforms (just showing the pass to the staff member). Another benefit I had was I did not need to pay extra fares when I missed my train one time, and had got the next train tickets. The pass also allows pass holders to easily change their destination. I purchased a Green Pass and it provided enjoyable trips each time particularly when I traveled long distance from Hakodate (in Hokkaido) to Hiroshima. The Green carriage has reserved seats with wide space and some basic services. So I would recommend Green Pass if someone plans to travel across Japan.

I bought the 7 day rail pass for my trip to Japan, and it definitely made travel through the country easier and cheaper. Once activated all you have to do is show your pass at the manned ticket counter and you're on the train. What's more is you can reserve a seat on the Shinkansen bullet train in advance, so you can always get a seat. One minor negative is that this rail pass can only be used on JR rail lines, so some places you plan on visiting may use a different train company. I highly recommend the JR pass if you plan on exploring a number of cities when in japan. The further travel the more you will save!!

Easy to use as just needs to be shown to staff at rail stations - do not need to have passport with you to use it. we were able to see many parts of Japan because we could jump on and off the train at different towns. Because of this we traveled out into the country areas and saw a truly beautiful part of the Japanese countryside. Without the rail pass we would have stayed in only the major cities.
